‘Culture Shock’ is een pilot van een subproject van De Voorkamer. Een project waarin artiesten met diverse achtergronden worden uitgenodigd om samen te werken aan culturele en interdisciplinaire activiteiten. Het programma kent drie aspecten. We organiseren avonden waarbij professionele muzikanten hun bestaande werk delen met ons publiek ‘Culture Shock - Band’ of ‘Solo’. We brengen muzikanten en andere kunstenaars samen om zo nieuw werk te genereren en te presenteren tijdens ‘Culture Shock - Mash Up’ avonden.
Als laatste bieden we de mogelijkheid voor onze community om zelf in kennis en talent te delen in o.a. workshops en improvisatieavonden zoals On The Spot.
Hoe kan een multiculturele benadering in muziek worden toegepast? Binnen deze zoektocht is het Mehmet Polat Trio een enorm sterke speler. Het trio brengt de drie instrumenten ud, nay en de kora samen. Ze creëren een mengvorm van de rijke klanken uit de Balkan, het Midden-Oosten en Afrika, verweven met klanken uit de jazz. Het trio speelt composities van bandleider Mehmet Polat, binnen deze composities is er veel ruimte voor improvisatie. Laat je meevoeren door dit inspirerende trio op een muzikale reis van het verleden naar het heden.

The program has three aspects of nights from professionals with their existing sets ('Culture Shock - Band' or 'Solo', professionals that meet each other for the first time 'Culture Shock - Match Up' and moments for the audience to share knowledge and talent themselves by joining workshops and improvisation evenings like ‘On The Spot’
How can multicultural approach in music can be applied in a trio band? When it comes to the exploration of that question, the Mehmet Polat Trio is one of the best examples! The Mehmet Polat Trio is a contemporary constellation of ud, ney and kora virtuosos. They blend rich musical traditions of the Balkans, Middle East, Africa with a Modal Jazz approach. The trio performs compositions by ud player and trio leader, Mehmet Polat which give lots of room for improvisations. The result is a wholehearted, open sound that invites you on a sincere musical journey from the past to the innovative present.
