Perspectives: Gender
As part of Alternative Perspectives and in celebration of International Women’s Day, on March 7th at De Voorkamer we are hosting an evening of discussion around the theme of gender.
Why do we behave in certain ways? Why do we choose to dress the way we do? How does the society around us expect us to act?
In every society around the world, there are different expectations of men and women. In this first event from the Perspectives program, we want to share these different expectations, explore where they come from, and discuss our perspectives on them.
Everybody has their own perspective, based on their unique experiences and life. There is no right or wrong opinion. Where we are from, our family, friends, education, gender, religion, and culture all shape who we are as people. We are creating an open and safe space to embrace these differences and learn from one another.
Perspectives is a unique project bringing together local, newcomer and minority communities in Utrecht for cross-cultural engagements on a variety of issues affecting their lives. Monthly talks and events are organized around thematic topics, with each event designed to spark open dialogue, learning, and creativity between groups on issues of individual and collective importance. The events serve as an open space for people of all backgrounds to raise concerns relevant to their lives in the Netherlands and local communities.
